Oh Rudy, hubris runs deep among you Republicans. Your shameless exploitation of 9-11 is a deep seated example of the excessive pride and arrogance of the right. Hubris generally is the precursor to downfall or destruction in classical tragedy. The hubris of the Bush White House led to the quagmire in Iraq that, in the final analysis, will prove to be the greatest threat to American security interests at home and abroad by Islamic fundamentalists; a threat far greater than existed prior to that ill-conceived war.Your remarks call into question your capacity to govern the nation. You should be deeply ashamed of your remarks and offer an apology to your Democratic brothers and sisters before you continue on in your efforts to become the president of the United States.
Your claim that the Democrats would cause more death and take longer to defeat terrorism is, quite clearly, the remark of a prideful and ambitious politico who will stop at nothing to further his campaign. It is, in the end, a Faustian deal you make. Name calling may bring short-term gains but, when the battlefield is sorted out, disaster follows.
Do yourself and the country a favor, Rudy, and withdraw from contention. The nation cannot afford a small town mayor as its leader.

Oh my, speak of hubris, you my dear sir are the definitive. I want to know how come someone so brilliant as you, a true know-it-all is not President? Can you not get anyone to believe you tripe? Are all your Liberal friends to busy marching and protesting and causing chaos to support you?
Take a hike, you big mouth communist parasite!
Oh my, madmouser, you don’t mince words. I suppose that name calling does come naturally to those that really have nothing to say. How ’bout addressing the content or, better yet, since you don’t like what I have to say, read the fascist blogs–there are many out there that seem to suit your style.
I thought that I read an article that said that Ruddy didn’t say that. For some reason I can’t remember where I saw it so I can’t link to it.
I am not a real huge Rudy fan and I don’t think that he should use scare tactics to win. Now if he has proof like a video of some terrorists wearing Obama or Clinton T-shirts, please produce them.
I do think that the Dems maybe a little soft on national security.
Madmouser, the name calling is so childish. I disagree with almost everything that Roger writes, but we talk like adults.
I disagree with almost everything that Roger writes, but we talk like adults.
Ain’t it the truth. Disagreements come with the territory. Voltaire once said, “I disagree with everything you say but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.” I thought that is what a democratic republic is all about.
I must admit, I’ve been called many things over the years but nothing so banal as “big mouth communist parasite!” I might add that none of that is true with perhaps the exception of the big mouth. :LOL
I thought that I read an article that said that Ruddy didn’t say that.
I saw the comments in several places. Some indicated that he said it as a joke, but nowhere did I read that he didn’t say it. The real shameful thing is that in an overly long campaign (almost 2 years) every candidate will say something he or she regrets. That raises issues of campaign reform. Gosh, I might just blog a little on that.
The real shameful thing is that in an overly long campaign (almost 2 years) every candidate will say something he or she regrets.
In today’s PC world you’re right. Candidates will be apologizing all throughout the campaign. If they aren’t they then aren’t talking enough.
Rudy didn’t say those words, but it can be implied from them.
This is from the text of the speech:
“The only way you’re going to find out about it in advance, the only way you’re going to prevent another Sept. 11 from happening is by being aggressive,” he said.
He later mentioned that failure to maintain an aggressive posture and to go back to “solely defensive” measures would cause more loss of life.
Now, what policies aggressive and solely defensive measure are is a matter for debate, but the words really aren’t.
I really “try” to be fair, but I can’t help but wonder if the Democratic candidate’s quick, virulent reaction was a case of “Methinks the lady doth protest too much”. They need to get better people to vette out the facts, and not the headlines run on Politico.com, which is where the allegation started.
It didn’t start from Rudy, who in all honesty to my knowledge has never personally maligned a candidate from either the GOP or Democratic Party, and while I admittedly am in his corner, has tried to run a positive campaign free from personal attacks.
Correction noted. I did not see the text of the original speech relying on what was reported. The point I make, however, still stands. I recall when Sen. Muskie openly cried on the campaign trail–nothing he said but his run for the presidency was over. The implication was that he was too soft to be president, couldn’t make a decision. I should also say that the hubris I assign to Rudy is, perhaps, a function of wanting to be president of the United States. The excessive pride and arrogance of any candidate must be checked or else we will read more stories like the one I clipped above. SInce you admit your Rudy bias, I must admit my anything but another Republican bias and move on.
